Jottings from Fr. J.J.

COME JOIN US 1– It’s a mouthful, but it’s worthwhile. Our marriage program this month, titled: 3 Doors to Enjoying the Marriage God Always Meant for you to Enjoy!, might not roll off the tongue, but will help roll you into a new phase in your marriage.  Deacon Bob Ovies and his wife Kathy, who presented last year’s couple prayer series, will be the presenters.  God has a plan for your union.  This program will assist you in living and enjoying the real plan He has for you and your partner.  They are going to help you look at again these things, evaluate them, talk about them, and in practical ways allow you to feel how you are God’s beloved.  Invite the Lord into your sacrament again and attend the program which will take place this Saturday, September 18th from 6:30-9pm.  The Davidson Center doors will open at 6:15pm.  A full dinner will be served at 6:45pm.  Make it a date.  Heck, the $36 charge is cheaper than two movie tickets and popcorn and wine is available.

COME JOIN US 2– Don’t have the airfare for a trip to the Netherlands?  No problem, just drive down to the Cathedral and you can get the same experience.  Dr. Chun will be heading off to compete in a very prestigious international organ competition in Haarlem, Netherlands.  It is a three level competition dealing with excellence in technique and interpretation.  Dr. Chun will perform a recital of the repertoire she will perform for the Cesar Frank Organ Competition, following the annual evening prayer gathering for pastoral musicians in the Archdiocese of Detroit this weekend, Sunday September 12 at 5:00 p.m. She could not perform it for us here because our organ is not large enough and does not have enough ranks, so it will take place at the Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament, 9844 Woodward Ave., Detroit. If you have never heard the amazing acoustics of our mother church, I would encourage you to attend. The public is welcome and it is 100% free, so let’s go cheer our home girl on!

COME JOIN US 3– In just a few short weeks we are beginning the process of welcoming folks into the Church.  In other words, inviting those who are thinking of becoming Catholic, would like to become Catholic, or those who have been baptized Catholic but have not yet received the Sacraments of Eucharist and/or Confirmation.  The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (R.C.I.A.) is a process designed for adults.  The meetings present an overview of Catholic beliefs and provide an opportunity to ask questions and explore your feelings and any concerns you might have.  It puts no pressure on people in any way; you will find yourself in a friendly and welcoming group where you can comfortably contemplate this important decision in their life. Our first meeting will take place on Sunday, September 26th at 11:30am in Meeting Room B.  It is our job to invite, so if you know of anyone who might fit the bill, please call the office and let us know, and I send them an invite, or call them if that will work better.  Please invite them.  The worst they can do is say no.
