Back in October, a group of men and women at our parish began attending classes that would train them to become Stephen Ministers. This group of caring and compassionate people have generously devoted each Monday evening for the last 20 weeks to learning the skills necessary to become lay care-givers. They will provide one-on-one, confidential Christian care and support to people facing illness, sadness, loss, fear, pain or loneliness. Their role is not to solve problems for people but to help them find strength and courage through prayer, trust and support.
Each Stephen Minister has received 50 hours of extensive, structured training before they begin their ministry. The training focuses on the importance of prayer and listening. Six people have attended these classes and will be commissioned as Stephen Ministers on May 22nd at the 10:15 Mass.
