Who is interested in playing Pickle Ball here at St. Anastasia?

Pickleball is a fun game that is played on a court with the net lowered to 34 inches at the center. The game started during the summer of 1965 on Bainbridge Island, Washington at the home of Congressman Joel Pritchard, U.S. House of Representatives for the State of Washington. You use a wood or composite paddle. It is easy for beginners to learn, but can develop into a quick, fast-paced, competitive game for experienced players

Although pickleball appears to be very similar to tennis, there are key differences that make pickleball more accessible to a wider range of players, particularly children and seniors. Chief among these differences is the speed of the pickleball ball which typically moves at one-third of the average speed of a tennis ball. Equally important, however, is the size of the court which is just under one-third of the total area of a tennis court. This smaller area combined with the slower moving ball makes pickleball much easier to play than tennis.

Since its inception in 1965, pickleball has spread across the United States and into Canada. It is now beginning to spread around the world. It is a fun sport that is being offered at local gyms with paddles and balls.

We are Considering offering this sport in our gym one day a week – during the day on a Tuesday or Thursday. Before we commit to the expense and the taped lines in the gym, we need to know there is a large amount of Seniors who would wish to join our group.

Please respond to Kim Houseman at *protected email* if you would be interested.
