Monday, January 18th honors the life and legacy of a man who brought hope and healing to America – Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. It commerorates as well the timeless values he taught us through his example: the values of faith, courage, truth, justice, compassion, dignity, humility and service.
His words are inspiring still todayas we continue to build a community that embraces different faiths, ethnicities and races. Yet, Dr King knew that words were not enough; action was required. This holiday honors the courage of a man who endured harassment, threats, beatings and even bombings. We commemorate the man who went to jail 29 times to achieve freedom for others, and ultimately gave his life to make democracy a reality for every American. His great faith led him to be an important leader of non-violence… a follower of Jesus.
On this day, we commemorate Dr. King’s great dream for our nation; a nation that has a place for people of every race and ethnicity and room at the inn for every needy person. Everyone who values a vibrant nation, peacefully united in justice and equality will remember Dr. King with gratitude.
In the tradition of Dr. King Pax Christi is a group dedicated to non-violence. They meet here at St Anastasia. The next meeting is Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at 7 p.m. in the Administrative Center, Meeting Room B. You are most welcome.
