HOW DO YOU SAY WELCOME IN SWAHILI?
Only a few days after Fr. Varghese safely landed back in India, we here at St. A’s were happy to open up our arms to a new priest from a completely different continent. This time it’s Africa. I am pleased to welcome Fr. Moses M???? as a part of our parish family. Unlike Fr. Varghese (whose official title was “priest in residence”), Fr. Moses joins us officially as “associate pastor”. Yep, you read that right. The Archbishop deems St. Anastasia large enough and active enough to warrant a second associate. Fr. Moses, like Fr. Eric, will be involved in all aspects of the life of our parish.
Fr. Moses is from Meru, Kenya and has some amazing stories. I have completely enjoyed every minute that I have shared with him since he arrived. I truly think he is blessing for us here. I’m not the only one though. As I understand it, after he celebrated his first Mass here, amazingly positive comments blew up facebook. If you have not greeted him yet, please go out of your way to make him feel at home and give him a good St. Anastasia welcome.
ART for GOD’S SAKE 2013
In just a few short weeks AFGS happens again (May 3-5th) here at St. A’s. This 2013 Show was never meant to take place. In 2011, we celebrated the first event and we intended this to be a onetime happening. In the preparation prior, we uttered daily: “This is your show, Lord. Do not let us get in the way. May it be for your glory and not ours.” If you attended, you realize that it exceeded everyone’s expectations. 1000’s of people attended, and over 300 pieces of art were submitted from 5 countries. It received glowing reviews from Archbishop Vigneron, the Detroit art community, and the media. To our surprise, we even received a congratulatory email from the Vatican on its success. All profits went to support Christian Service ministries and an inner city warming shelter for the homeless. Some folks even returned and found the Faith! Most importantly, God was glorified.
We decided to embrace the Spirit and celebrate a second show. This year, the profits will again go to the same charities, with one addition, The Patron of the Arts for the Vatican Museum (dedicated to the preservation and perpetuation of the vast and unique collection of art contained in the Vatican Museums).
There are many new features to this year’s event and I invite you to visit our website: www.artfgs.org and check some of them out. Mark your calendars’ and we will see you there.
VOCATIONS, VOCATIONS EVERYWHERE
Today St. A’s is hosting a special vocation fair (Sunday April 14th from 11 to 2 pm and 6 to 7:30 pm). Please join us for our 8:15, 10:15, 12:15, and 5 pm Masses. In particular, many of the Religious will join us for the 5pm. These Consecrated Religious will be in the Social Hall to speak about their communities and the unique charisms of each order. Come hear how these individuals heard God’s call and invite anyone whom you believe may need to respond to the Lord’s call in this beautiful way. All are welcome!!
