Jottings from Fr. J.J.

PICTURE PERFECT? “I can’t draw a straight line!” How many times have you maybe said this to someone when you look at a beautiful artwork? “Sure it is a pretty piece of art, but I don’t ‘understand’ it.” Logically, you then check out and walk away.

What if you did not have to do that? What if you looked at a piece of art and not only appreciated the beauty of the work, but even got to understand the artist and his/her motivation? What if, upon examining the piece, you were able to understand not only yourself better, but God better too?

This can actually happen. This is what we want to not only have happen for you, but also for a large group of folks who will attend an art show that we are hosting on the weekend of May 13th-15th, 2011. Art for God’s Sake is a juried, professional art show that highlights sacred themes. The goal of this event is to educate, inspire, and form all who attend with sacred art. We hope to allow all who come to spiritually renew and connect even more fully with God. The 3-day, multi-faceted exhibition includes an elegant opening-night gala that will utilize our whole complex, interactive art demos, educational opportunities for all, and drawings to win some of the art itself! It also showcases the non-juried artwork of well-known artists and local clergy. Dr. Chun and another talented musician have composed music just for the show and it will be performed live for the first time that weekend.

Archbishop Vigneron (our Chairperson), other local celebrities, artists from all over the country (actually all over the world), and interested folks from all over the Archdiocese and the state will be attending. We as a parish want to shine.

We need your help. Since we as a parish are hosting this exciting event and are expecting hundreds of guests, we want to make sure that those in attendance will experience the hospitality, welcoming spirit, and professionalism that we are known for.

We need individuals to be docents, decorators, bartenders, servers. We need individuals who are good with computers, and folks who have experience with large events. We need folks with hotel connections, wine connections, food and drink connections. Know anything about flowers, linens, lighting, and sound? We need you. Videos, easels, advertising, valet, or security… we need you. If you can help stuff envelopes, or make copies, we need you. If you have absolutely no discernable talent whatsoever, we need you. In other words, if you want to be a part of this exciting event, we will find a place for you.

Call 248-906-AFGS (2347) or email: ArtForGodsSake@gmail.com and leave us your contact info. We will be having a meeting for all volunteers and will relay that to you so you can attend. Thank you ahead of time for all you are doing!

God bless,
Fr. J.J.
