Jottings from Fr. J.J.

I Know You Don’t Want To Hear About This, But. . .

There are a couple financial things with which I wanted you to be up to date. First, if you look at our Financial Update you will see that we are currently debt free. YAY!  But, you will also notice that we are “groan” $35,000 behind for the year.  Yep you read that right.

Second, thank you to all who have pledged for the Catholic Services Appeal (CSA).  Unfortunately, not everyone has responded.  Currently, we have to make up $39,841.61.  When this happens, we have to send out a reminder letter to the parishioners.  This costs the parish about $1000.  I don’t want to have to waste the postage cost, so if you didn’t let us know of your pledge yet (even if it is $0), please do so.  Pledge forms are available in the info carousel in the gathering space, outside the parish office, or on our website.  If we do not make up this shortfall, we will have to take out the remaining amount out of our savings.  This would obviously set us even further behind.

Third, we have something that may help us all out: Electronic Giving.  What this means is that you set a monetary amount that would be automatically transferred to us each week, twice a month, or monthly.  I do this with most of my bills.  It saves me from the hassle of writing a check, and makes sure I have no late fees.   Your automatic pledge saves you from having to write a check, and allows us to balance as well.  One of your fellow parishioners said: ““Quote” Please visit our website or office and check it out.

A Prayer Request

A few weeks ago, there was a super sporty red 2014 Corvette Stingray Coupe Z51 1LT in front of the church.  Many of you bought tickets to win this cool ride.  The ticket will be drawn at the Archbishop’s Gala, this Thursday the 19th.   The Gala supports Sacred Heart Major Seminary and its mission to form the next generation of priests, deacons, and lay leaders.  It will be held in the beautiful new Grand Ballroom of Cobo Center and its theme is “An Artful Gala.”  Maybe it is because of the theme and my love of art, but Archbishop Vigneron (who will take individual photos with all the attendees) has asked me to emcee the night.  Entertaining the 850 guests and helping to raise the funds is a daunting task!  Therefore, I have a request and an invitation.  Please, please, pray for me and the success of the night.  It is a little overwhelming.  It is a very glamorous evening and includes many surprises.  I have attended the event many times in the past and have truly enjoyed myself.  As I understand, there are still tickets for the event.  So if you want to come and support both me and SHMS, go on line and grab a ticket.  Thanks for your prayers ahead of time!

God bless,
Fr. J.J.
