IT IS NOT JUST THE DOUGH THAT’S RISING– This weekend, we welcome On The Rise Bakery, which is sponsored by the Capuchin Soup Kitchen. This venture is unique in that the bakery is run by members of the ROPE (Reaching Our Potential Everyday) program. These are men who have recently been released from prison or have completed a substance abuse treatment program and desire to truly change their lives.
They have a selection of their baked goods in our gathering space. With each purchase, we help make possible the supportive housing, training counseling services, educational opportunities, and self help programs offered through ROPE. In the program each man is responsible to reach back and support the newest member. As Br. Ray Stadmeyer, ofm, cap says “This is truly a story of what can happen when a community dreams of the impossible and believes in it. Miracles still happen!”
So fill your belly with tasty treats and make someone’s life richer.
PAT YOURSELF ON THE BACK AND CONTINUE TO HELP– The following are two letters I received upon Fr. Moses’ return from Kenya. So far we have raised about $12,000 for the St. Lawrence home. In this wonderful residence, a Religious Sister cares for special needs children who have been abandoned. After you read these letters, you will clearly see that these orphans are in need. Therefore next weekend you can help them and look cool at the same time. How, you ask? In the gathering space you will be able to purchase (i.e. put in an order for) some spirit wear (sweatshirts and t shirts). The middle school students in our Religious Education program are donating all the profits from the stylish St. Anastasia clothing you buy, to our friends in need in Kenya. So, start making your wish list now!
