It
is hard to believe that it is now fall and the leaves are falling off the trees. It reminds me that Christmas
is not that far off. Speaking of fall, it is football season as we all know. Many of you may remember that
Fr. JJ and myself had a bet where the loser of the Michigan vs. Michigan State game has to sing the wining teams fight song
at all the masses that he has and at the winner’s masses. We are going to have to push back the singing
of the fight songs to the weekend of November 1st because Fr. JJ will be out of town. So please
be patient and you will soon hear one of us sing and I hope that all of you that are fans will join in with us.
Just a reminder that November 1st, All Saints Day, is not a Holy Day of obligation this
year because it falls on a Saturday. However, that doesn’t mean we can’t still honor and celebrate
all the saints that we have in the church and to use them as an example for all of us in our lives.
November 4th is Election Day. It is our civic responsibility to vote. The recent popes
have stressed the importance to vote, so our Catholic voices will be heard in government. Remember to be
an informed voter and also to vote with a well formed conscience. In regards to voting remember to vote
No on Proposal 2. This proposal is for unregulated Embryonic Stem Cell research and the Church
is clearly against it because it makes no sense to destroy life to save lives. Also, there have been no
treatments developed from Embryonic Stem Cells. The Church is not against Stem Cell research.
We support Adult stem cell research. These cells are already in us and treatments have been developed
from them unlike Embryonic. With these other types of stem cells that are not embryonic, there has been
treatments developed and there is a proven track record. I ask you to educate yourself on Embryonic Stem
Research and to vote No on Proposal 2. We have some material here in the offices if you
need some to help educate yourself.
Remember to enjoy these fall days until winter comes.
Also remember to vote and know your vote does count and most of all have a blessed week and know that all of you are
in my prayers.
