Dear 9th grade Parents:
Religious Education registration materials will be mailed to your home within the next few weeks. If your 9th grader has not completed the 7th and 8th grade program pre-requisites, yet you are interested in pursuing Confirmation for him/her, please call Marian Bart at 248.689.8380, Ext. 108, today. We are very excited about this upcoming year of preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation. This year we are launching a new ninth grade program called R.E.A.D.Y. David Graves is the coordinator for this new program.
Our hope for the R.E.A.D.Y. program is: to create a welcoming and passionate faith environment where the fire of Christ will be enkindled within the “center of affections… [the emotions, intellect, and will]” (Groome, 193) of the ninth grade confirmation candidates with the intention to inspire the newly Confirmed to continue their walk with God with a foundation of spiritual wisdom for life.
We are very eager to begin this year of preparation. Here are some details about the R.E.A.D.Y. program for your information and planning. PLEASE read through these details thoroughly.
The R.E.A.D.Y. program will meet on Sunday’s from 11:30a – 12:45p, every other week beginning on Sunday September 12, 2010 – see the schedule below.
All ninth graders are required to attend the St. Anastasia over-night Confirmation Retreat. We have two (2) options this year: Feb 11-12 (Fri to Sat) or Feb 12-13 (Sat to Sun). Please mark your calendars now!
This year, your son or daughter will need to choose a Confirmation Sponsor before the end of September. If they have not already done so, a sponsor is a Confirmed, active Catholic over 16 years old.
September 12, 2010 Kick-off – ALL parents and ninth graders MUST attend the 12:15p Mass and the B.A.S.I.C. Youth Ministry luncheon afterwards beginning at 1:30p. This “Kick-off” is the first session of the R.E.A.D.Y. program – see the schedule on the back.
Attendance at all R.E.A.D.Y. Sunday sessions is imperative; there is a service requirement that must be completed prior to receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation; we also strenuously encourage all Confirmation Candidates to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession) before being Confirmed.
Attendance to youth ministry events (B.A.S.I.C.) is encouraged – please take initiative as the primary catechist (teacher of faith) to continuously extend invitations and encourage your child to participate in activities and events offered by our youth ministry program.
PARENTS – you are also required to attend four specified sessions/events throughout your son or daughters preparation this year (those dates are forthcoming).
You will receive a detailed information packet on Sunday, September 12, 2010. It will review the information above and provide additional details as well.
