9th Grade Page

Coordinator:  Andy Cipolla, 248-689-8380, Ext. 108

The 9th grade Confirmation program will meet on Sundays from 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM, usually two Sundays a month. All 9th graders are required to attend the over-night Confirmation Retreat. We will have two (2) options: February 2 – 3, 2018 (Fri-Sat) or February 3 – 4, 2018 (Sat-Sun).

We have a Confirmation date!  It is Saturday, April 14, 2018 at 10 a.m. There is also a mandatory rehearsal the night before, April 13, at 7 p.m.

CHOSEN

We use the Chosen series for our Confirmation Program.  This dynamic 24 lesson program will start in the 8th grade intermixed with other 8th grade curriculum and will finish at the end of 9th grade with the Sacrament of Confirmation.

The goal of the Chosen program is to “prepare your students both intellectually and spiritually to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation and to become lifelong disciples of Christ.”  For more information on Chosen, please visit the official website.

9th Grade Attendance Policy:  This is a pivotal year for your child as he or she prepares for Confirmation. Their calendar is mostly on a bi-weekly basis, which means that the attendance policy is different than the other grades. Attendance is required at 100% of the 9th grade classes.  As the classroom peer-to-peer setting is a critical aspect to the Chosen Program, at home make up sessions will be offered on an as needed basis for excused absences only. A student may  not have more than 2 outstanding excused or unexcused absences. It is important to contact the coordinator (Andy on Ext. 108) as soon as you are aware of any conflicts with your child’s schedule. Please review your family and sports schedules beforehand and understand that attendance at ALL classes is mandatory. Make up sessions are offered as a courtesy – and NOT as a substitute to the classroom. There is a service requirement that must be completed prior to receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation; we also strenuously encourage all Confirmation Candidates to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession) before being Confirmed.

Called to Serve Training

We encourage and expect that all 9th graders preparing for Confirmation participate in this workshop; however, any high school student is welcome to participate in the Called to Serve Workshop – the date for 2017-18 is Saturday, January 6, 2018.  You must pre-register for this workshop by filling out the permission slip above.

What is Called to Serve Training?

Called to Serve is an interactive safe environment training program for teens in our Catholic High Schools and Parishes. Participants leave empowered to:

  • Use talents to effectively & responsibly serve others
  • Work with and be role models for children
  • Communicate and partner with adult supervisors
  • Interact appropriately with peers
  • Recognize and respond to inappropriate behavior

Service Opportunities

We will offer service opportunities pretty much on a monthly basis.

Attendance to youth ministry events (B.A.S.I.C.) is encouraged – please take initiative as the primary catechist (teacher of faith) to continuously extend invitations and encourage your child to participate in activities and events offered by our youth ministry program.

PARENTS – you are also required to attend specified sessions/events throughout your son or daughters preparation this year.  The calendar is above with the other links.
