VOLUNTEERS:

I am always looking for enthusiastic, reliable, and engaging volunteers! If you are interested in getting involved in our program, there are a variety of ways you can help.  It takes many hands to make our program happen.  I can work with whatever amount of time you have to offer.  Feel free to contact me with any questions, or if you’d like more information, or to take a look at the lesson plans.  Please prayerfully consider what you can share with our kids as
*Lead, Co- or Assistant Catechist (lesson plans, background information and all materials are prepared for you – just bring your enthusiasm!  Catechists must be Confirmed Catholics; a background check and signed Profession of Faith are required, as well as completion of the 1-time Protecting God’s Children course **)
*Hall Monitor during a class session (mostly involves an hour to sit and do something you enjoy while keeping an eye on our students’ safety)
*Babysitter for catechist’s preschool children while they teach
*Admin Assistant making copies/preparing materials for the weekly classes (usually on a weekday morning or afternoon, or during a class session)
*Classroom Set-up (distributes materials to classrooms during the day  before Monday or Tuesday classes)

**Catechists, Assistant Catechists, and all volunteers interacting with children are required to take a Protecting God’s Children workshop.  Please register online.

TEXTBOOKS:

2nd grade has multiple components.  We use the 2016 edition of God’s Gift: Reconciliation, and God’s Gift: First Eucharist, both by Loyola Press.  Preparation for the Sacrament of First Reconciliation begins in the fall, and is followed by the Sacrament of First Eucharist preparation, which begins in the winter.  Using scripture,  the children continue to learn about their faith and Jesus’ life and teachings on earth as they prepare the for Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Eucharist.

3rd graders receive a textbook at the first class.  We are currently using the 2013 edition of Finding God, Our Response to God’s Gifts series by Loyola Press.

4th graders receive a Bible at Mass prior to the first class session.  The Bible that we use is the NRSV Catholic Youth Bible.  The Bible should be brought to class each session as it is used as the “textbook” for the 4th grade Religious Education classes.

5th graders should continue to bring their NRSV Catholic Youth Bible to class each session.   It is the “textbook” for 5th grade classes.  If a student is new to St. Anastasia in the 5th grade or beyond, they will receive a Bible at that time.  If a replacement is needed, the cost is $25.
