“We come together to share our gifts…”
The first, second, and third grade program at St. Anastasia is also known as the “G.I.F.T.” Program, for Grow In Faith Together! The children are invited to begin their faith formation in a safe and welcoming environment.Throughout the year, all grades are involved in service opportunities, as they learn to be the hands and feet of Jesus Christ.
Parents are invited to participate in their children’s faith formation by attending “parent/child” sessions that are indicated on the class syllabus that is distributed at the first class.
Grade One
In first grade, we use the Finding God series, by Loyola Press. The children learn that God is our creator and loves us. They also learn that Jesus came to tell us about God the Father and saves us through His life, death, and resurrection. We thank Jesus for the gift of Himself and the Holy Spirit by obeying the commandments, caring for one another, and the world.
Grade Two
The second grade program has multiple components. We use the Together in Jesus series, by Pflaum, for both Reconciliation and First Eucharist Preparation. Preparation for the Sacrament of First Reconciliation begins in the fall, and is followed by the Sacrament of First Eucharist preparation. Through the use of New Testament scriptures, the children continue to learn about faith experiences during Jesus’ life and teachings on earth. It also allows them to develop a greater understanding of the sacraments that they are preparing for.
Grade Three
The third grade also uses the Finding God series, by Loyola Press. The children learn that Jesus is calling us to be a faithful follower, how each of the sacraments deepens our relationship with God and how the virtues of faith, hope, and charity are the foundations for moral choices we make as we grow in our faith.
