Beauty Guides

One of my favorite scenes in all of cinema is the moment in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast when the Beast, eyes sparkling with delight, gently leads Belle into her version of paradise: a towering library – well-lit, many-laddered, and all for her.  It’s a breathtaking gift that goes straight to the heart of who she truly is and what she desires most.

Such will be the joy we experience as God leads us gently into Heaven.  What will our “libraries” look like?  How will our Maker know us, and make Himself known to us?  It’s worth imagining, because such dreams help us find our true focus and keep it steady.  Heaven is real.  More real, indeed, than so many of the temporary distractions, irritations, and pleasures that we encounter here.

There’s a pretty popular book out right now called Heaven Is For Real by Todd Burpo.  I’ve read it and think it has its merits, but would recommend to everyone these titles even more:  A Travel Guide to Heaven by Anthony DeStefano; Mist of Mercy (especially the second half) by Anne; The Chronicles of Narnia (all 7 in a row) by C.S. Lewis; and The Lamb’s Supper by Scott Hahn.  Each of these has helped to set my heart beating for the promises of True, Eternal Love. Please treat yourself (and a friend!) to one of these books that simply must be on Belle’s soaring shelves too.
