The second-grade parent session originally planned for October 26 has been rescheduled for November 9 in the church during the children’s class times (4:30 or 6:45). All children should attend their normally scheduled classes; parents who need to attend at the alternate time are welcome to do so – with the caveat that they should let us and their children know beforehand.

New Sweatshirt Design
We have loved our St. Anastasia Cross-Training hoodies down to rags, yes? It’s time for a new design, so we need your help! Please submit your original design ideas on 8.5 x 11” paper to Marian Bart or anyone else on the Education Commission by January 7, 2011. Please include your name and phone number on the back of the paper. We are looking for original designs that are fun, inviting, and Christ-centered. The person whose design is chosen will receive a free sweatshirt.

FriendSense
Let’s each imagine that we have a dear friend who loves us very much, a friend who is incredibly attentive, generous, funny, smart, and even quite beautiful. This friend would do anything – absolutely anything – for you and me, but will not smother us in the process. This friend loves us individually and uniquely, so well and so deeply that the poetry, history, and love notes written about this love could fill a library. What this friend really wants in response from you and me is some quality time spent together. Perhaps just 10 minutes a day, and a shared meal on the weekends. We don’t have to prepare the banquet; we’re simply invited to show up and enjoy.
Jottings from Fr. J.J.
HOWDY PARTNERS – Put your boots and spurs on, or some other costume and get ready to swing your partner. Oct 30th, woooooo – devil’s night, St. Anastasia will be “getting down with its bad self” or at least hoedown with its bad self. Come one, come all to the BARN DANCE. You get to swing your partner do-see-do (but not too hard since we are serving chicken and she might slip out of your fingers!?!). It will start at 6:30 p.m. in the Davidson Center and fun will be had by all. Give the office a call and reserve your spot.
We’re So Excited!
Save the date….
Sunday, March 27 through Wednesday, March 30, 2011 will be St. Anastasia’s Parish Mission: “Divine Inspiration.” We will be exploring the many ways that art can lead us to God and celebrating both our creativity and our createdness. This mission will feature some family-friendly offerings, a range of inspired and inspiring speakers, and a few surprises! Stay tuned for more information in the months ahead! If you are interested in helping with hospitality or administrative details in February/March, please contact Marian Bart at 248-689-8380, ext. 108.

I will not have an article next week as my wife and I are taking a trip to German Town, New York. My wife Arlene is an ex-Carmelite nun (take care of the aged and infirm) and their motherhouse is located there on the shores of the Hudson River; it’s called Avila. Every 5 years or so they have a reunion and this year I was specially invited by Mother Superior…the only “man” to be so invited (I think my wife had something to do with that!). I will be staying on the grounds; they have graciously offered to let me stay in the empty apartment located above the garage. I was also invited by the visiting priest to assist him at Mass on Sunday morning…a real honor that I am looking forward to.

Just a quick reminder on two things; pavers and automated deductions: We will be taking paver orders through October 23rd with installation within two weeks after that. Please consider a paver as an appropriate and permanent memorial to commemorate a loved one or a special event; sign up forms are in the narthex on the cabinet by the Divine Mercy Chapel entrance. Automated donations are a great way to support St. Anastasia year round, even when you’re out of town on vacation. As we’ve indicated before, our expenses continue (just like your personal expenses) year round and never take a vacation (unfortunately). In addition, you don’t have to worry about making out a check every week. We’ll be putting out a list shortly to those of you on the automated system with all the special collections listed (including maintenance and flowers) and when they take place and will be making automated donations possible for those collections. Like last year, we’ll also extend the option of utilizing the automated for the Christmas collection as well.
